South Field (2)

After the huge 'Swallows formation of 2008, a lone 'Swallow' has returned to South Field near Alton Barnes, this time with some very strange patterns trailing from it.

Report

We had reports of a second crop circle in South Field from the guys at the Crop Circle Connector this morning, so off we went to check it out.

From the road at Alton Priors we could see very little, so we went to the top of Knap Hill to look across the valley and sure enough we could see the shadow of something in the spot where the huge 'Swallows' formation came in 2008.

We walked up through South Field and quickly came across the bottom end of the formation which appeared to be a circle, but on inspection was actually more of an egg shape.  We made our way through the design trying to decipher the odd shapes leading to the top.

When we reached the top it was obvious even from the ground that we were perhaps dealing with another Swallow with shapes tailing from it - but that was about all we could tell.

All the laid crop was flattened in quite a random way - some left standing, some barely flattened at all.

On inspection, the laid crop was covered in dry mud although the ground underneath was by now bone dry again after the torrential rain of the day before and many of the stems of the plants were broken at the base.
