Stanton St Bernard

This formation is below Milk Hill near Stanton St Bernard (and Alton Barnes).  It's approx. 250 ft in diameter and is laid in Barley.  This is the first formation of 2009 to appear in the notorious Alton Barnes area.

Report

This intricate design is based on 7 - a number linked to spiritual understanding.  It has the outline of a heptagon and inside the design, the circular pattern of swirls deriving from a central smaller heptagon, gives it a sense of movement.

On closer inspection the fourteen pointed shapes, seven clockwise and seven anti-clockwise, within the formation resemble eagles and as the design almost appears to spin, it is as if the eagles are circling. The symbol of the eagle is more prevalent in the Americas where it was and still is used by Indegenous People to convey certain inner truths. It represents keen vision and the ability to soar up and fly high. Perhaps this is an invitation for us to sharpen our inner vision and to elevate our spirit. (see spiritual aspect of crop circles)

The seven descending circles in one of the "eagles" are preceeded by a larger one that has the shape of an egg (even at ground level), reinforcing the allusion to birds.

Noticably (if you study the landscape picture opposite) you can see that about 300 metres from the main formation, there is a smaller (perhaps 60ft in diameter) disc of flatened crop that seems to have no bearing on the large design at all, until you see it from the air  (as shown here), then you will notice that the smaller disc and the larger formation are in a direct alignment with the White Horse beyond, pointing pretty well to its heart, as many previous formations in this location have done in the past.

This design has appeared in the same field as the massive '8' or DNA symbol of 08.08.08.  From above, a shadow of its former self can still be seen in the field (clear in the bottom landscape photograph opposite) next to the new design, even though since its appearance last summer the field has been ploughed and prepared for a new crop (the 08.08.08 formation was in Wheat - this field is now growing Barley).
