Already 18 formations and we are still only at the beginning of June. It is hard to imagine what July and August will be like if this intensity continues.
All these magnificent designs have attracted the attention of the Press and as usual, the journalists cannot comprehend what is happening. More than this, they cannot even comprehend that something unusual is happening and yet, there could hardly be anything more out of the ordinary than crop circles. It is so far out, as we used to say, most people can’t go there, clinging as it were to the notion that nothing with intelligence can exist outside the human realm; only able to see in their mind’s eye delinquents with planks crushing crops in the dark. They should try putting their theory to the test and experience the difficulty of creating novel

Well after a short break of a couple of weeks and no new formations, the madness came again over the bank holiday weekend, with three designs reported in 2 days. These designs are the first to come in Barley, the first two (at Barbury Castle and Bishops Cannings) reported on the same day (24th May). Strangely enough, the first Barley design of 2008 was also reported on 24th May last year (the delicate design at Hackpen Hill - see our Image Gallery). The crop circle season 2009 has well and truly started. With eight formations in oilseed rape already, six before the beginning of May, I can say that the season ahead of us is likely to be more intense than usual. And that is something because pretty well each year so far has been more exciting than the one before. I can’t imagine what we could be in for this summer, but for certain it will be amazing and for us who study this full time, exhausting as well, as we are already stretched and it has barely began.
I have never seen such complex designs in rape in all my years of studying this subject. Usually, the season ...
