On Saturday (12th December) we held our annual Christmas get together at Alton Barnes - at the heart of 'Crop Circle Country'!  It was warming to see friends and group members old and new come to bring another year of circle chasing to an end.  The day started with a group AGM to bring the previous 12 months activities to a close and to talk about plans for the next 12 months, a small group gathered for this as most seem to find it a tedious way to spend an hour, but it needs to be done nevertheless, so we thank those that came along! 

After the serious business was out of the way we could concentrate on the main event of the day - a sociable lunch with a tasty variety of dishes supplied by those that came along, washed down with wine, conversation and good company as different people from all walks of life, old and young gathered around the candlelit Christmas table with their interest in the crop circles their common link.

Many of you feel the same way I'm sure - how did we get from Summer fun in the fields full of crop circles to nearly Christmas!  When November arrived it was a shock, but I still feel like there should be more of November left, instead the letters from school are talking about Christmas plays and new year dates.  The December / January issue of the Spiral is just going to print and Francine's editorial talks about the things we can be trying to do in the New Year to change the way we live, so that the things we do and the decisions we make will have less of an impact on the Earth. 

In our household we are always fighting the ongoing battle with the clever marketing people that convince my children that the dreadful plastic toys they are advertising are indeed 'must-haves' for Christmas and that their Christmas experience would be catastrophic if in fact they woke up on Christmas morning  and did not find them at th ...

This Wednesday (18th November), our second review of the season will be held at the Coronation Hall in Alton Barnes (Wiltshire) at 7.30pm.  Sadly, Gary King is now unable to give the review as planned and so instead Francine Blake will give you her insights into the formations that appeared in the Wiltshire fields this Summer. Francine's first review held in Salisbury in October was enjoyed by over 50 people.  The talk will be accompanied by Olivier Morel's images of the recent season (over 70 pictures in total).  Refreshments will be available.  Members of WCCSG are invited at £3 and other friends are welcome at £4.50.  We would love to see you there.  More details can be found at our news and events page.

The madness of the Summer was prolonged by the production of the 2010 calendar, while we worked with images of the crop circles and set everything in place it was as though the formations themselves were still with us despite most of them being cut by September.  And now the pile of newly printed calendars is diminishing by the day and the last of the hardened circle enthusiasts have returned to their native homes, the office is quieter and there are few visitors popping in these days, bringing the reality home that those busy Summer months are well and truly behind us for another year.

And so we look forward to the Winter months and the activities that traditionallly come with them.  On 12th December we hope that WCCSG members old and new (and their friends) will join us for lunch at Alton Barnes to assess the months gone by and look forward to the Summers to come.  This year we have invited traders to co ...

Thanks to everyone who attended the 2009 season review at Salisbury on 3rd October.  Over 50 people joined the review in which Francine illstrated with her insights the many designs that have graced our Wiltshire fields since April this year.

If you missed the review in Salisbury, the presentation will be given again in Alton Barnes on Wednesday 18th November (7.30pm) by Gary King, who will no doubt introduce some alternative perspectives and insights into the formations.  For more information, see our news and events page.

Since the 2009 Crop Circle season offcially came to close at the end of August this year, we have been working away on the production of the 2010 calendar.  6000 finished copies finally arrived in the office last Friday and by Monday most of our worldwide distributors were takling delivery of them ready for sale.  This year, the calendars have once again been produced in an English and French edition and they have been shipped for sale to France, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Brazil.

Individual purchasers have also been placing their orders since August and their long wait to see the finished product should now be at an end.  All orders up to date have now been despatched, although we have been experiencing postal strikes here in the UK which may have delayed them getting to their destinations.

Since the 2009 Crop Circle season officially ended at the end of August with the one and only maize formation of the year appearing near Uffington, we have been collating our images of the season and studying the reports logged after every visit to the designs to ensure that the 2010 Crop Circle Calendar is packed with as mich information as possible.

It is finally at the printers and the team here have been overseeing its design and production for 6 busy weeks - but soon nearly 6000 copies will be finished and ready to go!

Many people have made their orders already and distributors from all over the world, Europe, USA, Canada and Brazil are awaiting ita arrival.

Already 18 formations and we are still only at the beginning of June. It is hard to imagine what July and August will be like if this intensity continues.

All these magnificent designs have attracted the attention of the Press and as usual, the journalists cannot comprehend what is happening. More than this, they cannot even comprehend that something unusual is happening and yet, there could hardly be anything more out of the ordinary than crop circles. It is so far out, as we used to say, most people can’t go there, clinging as it were to the notion that nothing with intelligence can exist outside the human realm; only able to see in their mind’s eye delinquents with planks crushing crops in the dark.  They should try putting their theory to the test and experience the difficulty of creating novel

Well after a short break of a couple of weeks and no new formations, the madness came again over the bank holiday weekend, with three designs reported in 2 days.  These designs are the first to come in Barley, the first two (at Barbury Castle and Bishops Cannings) reported on the same day (24th May).  Strangely enough, the first Barley design of 2008 was also reported on 24th May last year (the delicate design at Hackpen Hill - see our Image Gallery).  For more details and pictures of the new designs, visit our 'latest circles - May' pages.
